MY PRAGMATIC THOUGHT POST PDAC2024

💡“Mining can no longer be a unidirectional investment as an end in itself, but must be associated with the concept of intergenerational sustainable development. It must include time to establish local relationships and incorporate people into the production process and, thus ensure a more persevering time horizon than short-term profit goals.” 

This mining mindset of mine, I like to frame it as something that is part of a special branch of Geology, less scientific, but more human, "Social Geology". 

Today, the concept of total sustainability of mining projects has greatly changed the vision and management of hashtag#mining. This is because, a project in addition to being closely linked and intrinsic to economic feasibility constrained by the deposit’s cut-off grade and market prices, it is also subject to the measure of sustainability that requires a more thorough study with the application of the concept of feasibility to the social and environmental part as well. For example, if a community does not want a project for any justifiable reason and included in the country's regulations, it would be an imposed and forced investment and the economic risk would be too high. Similarly, if there is an environmental situation on the verge of precariousness and too much risk for environmental impact, it is convenient not to exert forcing through risky solutions that are difficult to implement and/or maintain in the long term. 

☑️ Through my VUELTA MINING ATTITUDE activity, I have the opportunity and task of promoting information on responsible mineral sourcing strategies, where a mining initiative must be ethically sustainable by adhering to 3 basic operating principles: hashtag#economically viable, hashtag#socially inclusive and hashtag#ecologically effective. 

📍A hashtag#conscious mining project, should while feel the wonderful responsibility to bring benefits beyond the mere operational boundaries of the mine. 

The mine, when sustainably developed, is the starting engine for establishing a productive life source with significant social and environmental effects that can transform its impacts into positive opportunities for all stakeholders in the value chain involved, starting from the affected community and ending with the end consumer. 

I firmly believe that in the mineral supply chain, there is no perspective without two points of view where inevitably the commercial path that combines the coexistence of the hashtag#Upstream side with the hashtag#Downstream side should be a mirror in which each side can reflect to the other its own identities and human needs, unfiltered.

For me, hashtag#PDAC2024 was, more than anything else, a personal growth.
